Frontline International Redesigns Heated Grill Grease System

New funnel and improved heater controls highlight changes

Frontline International has redesigned its popular Heated Grill Grease System to be safer and cleaner and to accommodate more grills than before. Key changes include a new shape and the addition of a funnel to guide fat into the containment bin.

Other new features are an integral pump for worry-free transfer of grease to containment tanks, and new heater controls to more precisely and efficiently keep fats in a constant liquid state.

The Heated Grill Grease System allows users to collect grill grease throughout the serving day and then pump it into any of Frontline International’s waste-containment tanks. Solids are filtered via the extra-large sediment basket, preserving the high quality of the oil while protecting the integrity of the equipment’s pump and motor.

The redesign does an even better job of efficiently routing grease to the collection area and away from employees and kitchen surfaces. This improves safety and overall cleanliness.

Operation is easy: When the caddy is near full—or at scheduled intervals when the grill is less busy—carefully pull the caddy to the Frontline International used-oil storage tank or pumping station and easily pump the waste grease into the tank.

Frontline International Doubles Size of Flagship Plant

30,000 sq. ft. facility will dramatically increase manufacturing capacity

Frontline International has announced an expansion project that will double the size of its headquarters in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Following completion in Sept. 2018, the facility will total 30,000 square feet.

Virtually every aspect of Frontline’s business will be touched by the project, including significantly larger warehouse capacity to facilitate faster delivery of product. Fabrication and welding departments will also see expansion for faster product turnaround while maintaining critical quality standards.

Dramatic increases in international and domestic equipment sales spurred the new construction. New programs were also contributing factors, including the launch of OilCare®, a turnkey initiative for which cooking oil management services are bundled with fixed monthly equipment leases, helping customers access company services by financing the total cost. Increased manufacturing and warehousing capacity will position the company to better respond to the needs of customers globally.

Frontline moved to the Cuyahoga Falls location in 2010 after previously being based in nearby Barberton. At that time, company officials mindfully designed the plant to be modular to easily respond to future growth.

“We’re excited about our current growth trajectory,” John Palazzo, president of Frontline International. “This expansion will help us stay better connected to our customer base while continuing to spread our message of safe, sustainable, and profitable cooking oil use throughout the world. We look forward to the years ahead, with an eye on additional expansion in the future.”

Frontline’s Integrated Anti-Theft Valve Thwarts Would-Be Grease Bandits Easily and Effectively

Stealing used cooking oil is a $40 million dollar-per-year business. Restaurants are ripe targets and often don’t realize how easy it is to secure this precious commodity. Frontline International’s integrated anti-theft valve makes sure that no one drains oil storage tanks unless they are authorized to do so.

Why would anyone want to steal used grease? Because of its value to the production of biofuel and other byproducts like animal feed. It is estimated that 8 percent of all used oil intended for collection slips into the hands of thieves. That’s nearly 200 million pounds of stolen grease, selling at two to three dollars per gallon.

Now, restaurants and their renderers can easily protect themselves and eliminate the theft threat. Frontline collection ports with the integrated anti-theft valve make it impossible for thieves to drain stored oil. The anti-theft valve can only be opened by entering a password on a control panel on the tank.

The valve can also be opened remotely if foodservice operators choose Frontline’s web-based M3 Data Management System, which helps monitor, measure, and manage cooking oil usage while controlling profits from used oil resale. M3 provides data and reports to track usage and collection statistics and compare them daily, weekly, and monthly. Automatic alarms are sent before fresh oil supplies are exhausted or the waste oil tank reaches “full.” Oil collection companies can even be alerted when it is time to collect.

No matter which option is chosen, Frontline gives operators the weapons they need to lay down the law against oil thieves and keep their share of this vital commodity.

Frontline International Redesigns EZ Oil™ Fresh Oil Dispensing System

Deeper reservoir more than doubles shortening capacity

Frontline International has redesigned its signature EZ Oil™ Fresh Oil Dispensing System to dramatically increase capacity. The patented EZ Oil process employs boxed oil, held in an inverted position, that is plumbed to a reservoir. With the redesign, the depth of the reservoir has been more than doubled, which also more than doubles its shortening capacity.

EZ Oil’s integral pump moves oil at the touch of a button from the reservoir to awaiting fryer vats. Over and above the filled reservoir, the unit racks more plumbed boxed oil, helping to ensure the reservoir remains filled and ready. Because this reservoir is now 10 inches deep, up from 4 inches, it will hold 350 pounds of shortening, up from 140 pounds.

The new, greater capacity accommodates the industry’s largest fryers, and also is ideal for kitchens with several fryers that need to be plumbed in a chain using a single, automated dispensing system.

“Sometimes bigger is better,” said Giovanni Brienza, vice president of Frontline International. “By increasing the capacity of the EZ Oil reservoir, we’re giving customers more of what they love about it. They can now go more than twice as long between reloading, ensuring peak performance during lunch and dinner rush.”

The centerpiece of Frontline International’s Smart Oil Management™ systems, EZ Oil is the convenient, safer, and more cost-effective way to refill fryers with fresh cooking oil. Upside-down storage dispenses every drop of oil, increasing yields by up to 10%.

Whether the system is direct-plumbed or implements the dispensing wand, fresh cooking oil flows freely and easily from the boxes on the rack into the fryers. This system can dramatically improve workplace safety, as hands and floors are kept clean and grease-free.

Frontline International’s Low-Profile Transport Caddy Is a Cleaner, Safer Way to Dispose of Grease

Rotisserie chicken ovens are a high-margin addition to professional foodservice kitchens, with seemingly just one drawback: the mess. A single rotisserie can discharge up to 70 pounds of grease each day, and all that rendered chicken fat needs somewhere to go. Gravity sends it dripping downward, where standard collection pans just can’t keep up.

One solution is Frontline International’s Low-Profile Transport Caddy. Smooth-rolling with heavy-duty casters, the stainless steel caddy slides right under the rotisserie oven and holds up to 75 pounds of grease. When the caddy is full, simply secure the lid, roll it to the containment tank, connect the hose, and pump out the contents. There’s no mess to clean up and no need for employees to handle hot grease, which significantly reduces the risk of slips, falls, and burns.

The Low-Profile Transport Caddy’s ease of use promotes compliance with proper grease disposal protocols, saving the environment and city pipes from the ravages of grease that is poured down the drain. The Environmental Protection Agency says this practice is responsible for nearly half of all sewer blockages in the U.S. each year, costing millions in repairs. Further, ground water polluted with grease kills plants and animals and damages ecosystems.

Frontline International is a trusted partner in complete cooking oil solutions for the foodservice kitchen. While the caddy needs just 8.25 inches of clearance, the company’s team can even custom engineer one that sits extra-low to the ground. Safety features include a lid latch and a breakaway power cord to prevent tip-overs and tripping hazards.

A critical companion to any rotisserie oven, Frontline International’s Low-Profile Transport Caddy is the ideal way to eliminate a messy kitchen job while helping to assure quality and safety.

Avoid Repairs and Fines, Make Money with Frontline Smart Oil Management Systems

Put Grease into Sustainable Biofuel, Not Sewer Drains

Improper disposal of waste cooking oil is a major problem throughout the industrialized world. The consequences of which were on display this September in east London, when city sewers became clogged by a mammoth grease blockage that was an incredible 820 feet long and weighed 130 tons. Crews worked seven days a week to chip away at the accumulated grease, which had mixed with other sewage materials to form a dense mass the consistency of concrete.

“It’s frustrating, as these situations are totally avoidable and caused by fat, oil and grease being washed down [drains],” said Matt Rimmer, Thames Water’s head of waste networks.

Nearly half of all sewer blockages in the United States are caused by improper disposal of cooking oil. Each year local governments spend millions of dollars on repairs to undo the damage. Even blockages that don’t make it into the wider system can harm a building’s pipes and cost thousands to remedy.

Cooking oil also has devastating effects on the environment if it reaches lakes and streams. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency treats it just like petroleum, citing the toxic potential.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Frontline International Smart Oil Management™ systems make it easy to handle, recycle, and even profit from cooking oil and grease. With Frontline International waste oil collection equipment, cooking oil is effortlessly guided to and retained in tanks loaded with technology that monitors every drop. This is important since every drop is a valuable commodity traded for rebates. The system also helps kitchens monitor fresh oil supply, extend its life, and save money.

Customers purchase and own their fresh oil- and waste oil-handling equipment, incurring no monthly leasing fees. By collecting and disposing of waste oil safely and tracking oil usage data, restaurateurs, grocery chains, commissary operators and more utilize Frontline International equipment to realize increased control and profitability.

Stretch joined Frontline International as a shop and service manager in 2006 and was promoted to plant manager in 2010. As such, he managed and strengthened relationships with high-profile house accounts and is eager to continue this effort. “My goal is to nurture and grow the customer relationships I’ve built over the years,” said Stretch. “They are the reason for Frontline International’s emphasis on innovation—so many of our products have been direct responses to our customers’ oil-handling challenges. Frontline International Opens South American Sales Office, Hires Waste Oil Environmental Expert

Santiago Montejo brings years of experience in used cooking oil reclamation and regulation

Ohio-based Frontline International, a leading provider of Smart Oil Management™ systems for foodservice operators around the world, has opened a South American sales office. The sales office, located in Bogota, Colombia, is headed by Santiago Montejo (pictured), and will allow restaurant customers and Frontline International equipment dealers on the continent to receive regular visits from a used cooking oil collection expert and environmental steward.

John Palazzo, president of Frontline International, said, “As equipment manufacturers, we want to provide customers in fast-expanding territories with excellent service, and that necessitates having a branch in their region. By opening an office in Colombia, we can respond more effectively to the needs of our customers in all of Latin America. And we are very lucky to welcome Santiago to the Frontline International family; he’s a bit of a pioneer in his region when it comes to the collection, disposal and recycling of waste cooking oil.”

Montejo will champion the environmental benefits of proper foodservice cooking oil management and be able to provide valuable on-site product installation recommendations. The Bogota office, run independently from Frontline International’s Oil Care branded operations headquartered in Puerto Rico, will allow customers throughout Latin America to receive products quickly and efficiently.

In 2011, Montejo started his own business to collect used cooking oil (UCO) with the environmentally related goals of reusing and repurposing this potentially valuable commodity, which might otherwise be disposed of improperly. At the time, there were no local biodiesel plants that could process UCO, so it had to be exported to Spain. In 2014, Montejo learned about Frontline International through the company’s website and contacted them to learn more. In 2015, Frontline International sent Montejo equipment to collect UCO from professional kitchen fryers and, by 2016, he was attending the National Restaurant Association conference on the company’s behalf.

While he originally focused on collecting and repurposing the oil, the more he learned about the safety hazards involved with handling UCO, the more driven he was to approach sales and service from the perspective of making kitchens safer, cleaner places. He has worked with the Colombian government to create and standardize formal processes for UCO collection, even assisting with writing the related regulations and lobbying the government for change. He is now an environmental consultant for both the country and for the broader South American restaurant industry.

“The equipment and technology we sell is really well received,” said Montejo. “It makes kitchens cleaner and safer while extending the life of cooking oil through filtering—a cost benefit to owners/operators. Oil collectors love how easy it is to work with our secure storage tanks, which can be placed indoors or outdoors.” He added. “Changing the way UCO is handled is, honestly, a matter of public health. Used oil is sometimes collected illegally and then resold to restaurants, which is dangerous and not hygienic. Our equipment benefits everyone and is better for the environment as well.”

Frontline International’s fresh and waste oil management equipment will continue to be designed and manufactured in the United States.

Safer Grill Grease Collection with Frontline International

Frontline International, a leader in cooking oil management solutions, knows safer grease-handling practices are integral to lowering risk and protecting employees from injury. The hot grill area is one of the most challenging when it comes to the safe collection and disposal of grease, because grill grease tends to coagulate quickly when cooled.

Frontline International has developed a Heated Grill Grease System that works in concert with any of their waste oil management systems to complete their Smart Oil Management™ program. The system allows operators to collect grill grease throughout the workday in a stainless steel basket positioned under the grill drains. Solids are collected in an extra-large sediment basket, while a silicone heater helps prevent congealing in the heated transport caddy. At the end of the day, simply wheel the caddy to the waste oil containment tank, where grease can be pumped in at a rate of 5 gallons per minute via the 110V 15A-250V 3.5A 1/2HP industrial motor.

This system is UL, UL Sanitation Listed and features seamless, easy-to-clean construction and swivel casters with brakes for steady positioning under grill drains. Quick-connect fittings ensure no manual handling of grease by employees will be necessary; they also help maintain cleaner floors. Not only does this mean a better work environment for employees and potential savings on insurance and workers’ compensation, but it can also help drive productivity. It’s a time-proven concept that when employers show staff they care about employees’ safety, they feel more dedicated and work harder on the job. Making grill grease handling safer in the kitchen is good for everyone.

Frontline International’s fresh and waste oil systems are modular and flexible to fit in every commercial kitchen, no matter the challenges regarding cost or limited space. All equipment includes a one-year warranty on both parts and labor.
